We get to see August, and his perspective, as Jack starts to get hallucinations and is able to see a dark fantasy world on top of and coexisting with our world. This story is told with a lot of multimedia elements that really helps make it feel even more real, and when the story gets darker the pages also become darker, which completely takes the story to another level in my opinion.īut The Wicker King essentially is a story about two high school boys from Michigan, who are both being extremely neglected in very different ways, and they find what they are missing within each other. We get to see their love for each other and the devotion they both have for one another. It all starts with seeing two boys breaking into a toy factory, which lands them in an asylum in 2003, and we get to see a dark and intense unfolding of what lead them to this action. This book will just always have a special place in my heart now. Okay, I just want to start this review off that this book will forever be sentimental to me, not only because it was the first book I read this year and that I absolutely loved it, but also because it was the very first pick for the Dragons & Tea Book Club and the author came into the group and answered so many questions that made this one of the best reading experiences I’ve ever had in my entire life. “Would you do something bad if you knew it would have more good in it, in the end, than bad?” Goodreads | Amazon US | Barnes & Noble | Book Depository

Like many stories with girl main characters, this story is closely connected to the seasons. We three had worn oilcloth ponchos, hoods up, and boots, so we were plenty dry and warm, but many of the other children came in soaked and shivering. There is plenty of hygge - the peeling of apples, the large family table in their big, warm farm house.īy the time we got to the schoolhouse, it was raining in earnest. Instead, Wolf Hollow is an ‘snail under the leaf setting’, where people grow ‘ victory gardens‘ and residents are surrounded by nature. (Raccoon Creek and the Turtle Stone are other fetching names used in the book.) But unlike the world of (the original) Green Gables, this is no utopia. “Wolf Hollow” is a romantic, intriguing name reminiscent of something Anne Shirley would dream up. It’s immediately clear that this is a war-aftermath story. Originally written as an adult book, marketed and edited as a children’s book. Wolf Hollow is the literary, middle-grade version of that book in some ways. I have previously taken a close look at a lesser-known picturebook called Wolf Comes To Town. Though moons tend to be massive in children’s books, the moon on this cover would have to be the most massive I’ve seen in a while! Here I focus instead on the writing techniques, for writers of middle grade. This mid-20th century story is chock-full of symbolism which makes it great for a novel study. Wolf Hollow (2016) is a middle grade novel by Lauren Wolk. Agent: Christina Hogrebe, Jane Rotrosen Agency. These unfortunate flaws outweigh the chemistry between the central couple. McKinlay’s writing is punchy, but the rushed romance strains belief and Nick’s disability is often insensitively handled. What starts off as a mostly chick lit kind of book wraps up as a romance with a quick HEA. When Nick’s sister asks for help with a business venture and Annabelle is tasked with bringing in a big client, their needs align, forcing the pair to work together. Jenn McKinlay’s Wait For It is a breezy contemporary romance with humor and heart, and a complex look at loss, courage, and happiness. Despite his reluctance to socialize and painfully depicted self-hatred, Nick feels drawn to his vibrant tenant. Nick withdrew from the public eye after a stroke that weakened his legs and occasionally made it necessary for him to use a wheelchair. When this plan works, she’s shocked to discover her landlord is the young, gorgeous Nick Daire. Novel Title: Wait For It Author: Jenn McKinlay Genre: Womens Historical Fiction, Sports. Aggravated by these restrictions, Annabelle blatantly breaks rules hoping to draw him out of seclusion. Hope you will enjoy this Wait For It PDF. But her new digs in the guest house of a beautiful mansion come with their own issues: her crotchety landlord has a long list of rules and prefers to communicate via passive-aggressive notes rather than meeting in person. After Annabelle Martin’s ex-husband unexpectedly re-proposes, Annabelle realizes she needs a clean break-and a graphic design job at her best friend’s company in sunny Phoenix is the perfect fit. McKinlay ( Paris Is Always a Good Idea) delivers a disappointing rom-com. The extra details added depth to the overall story and aided in character development. Also, the changes in setting and characters as the story moved back and forth between both viewpoints kept the story interesting. It helped to flesh out the character of the Prince as well as the immediate people around him. I loved the 2 viewpoints from which the story was told: that of Cinderella and the Prince, rather than Cinderella alone. While I enjoy different interpretations of fairytales, I loved the fact that the movie and the book stayed true to the classic Cinderella plot. This Cinderella tale is a romantic and beautiful (and heavy!) rendition of the fairytale, with wonderful illustrations. 2) I like almost any fairytale interpretationģ) It's basically a written version of the movie which I absolutely loved.
